April 30 is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, a day in which we pray in a special way for all vocations, but especially those to ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate) and consecrated life. 2023 marks the 60th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
Pray for Vocations!
As Catholics, we firmly believe that God has a plan for our lives! He calls some to marriage, some to the priesthood, and others to religious life or to live as generous single people. Fully living our vocation — and teaching young people how to discern God’s call — is a serious, but joyful duty. During this week, please encourage the young people in your life — children, grandchildren, students, and friends — to be open if God calls them to priesthood or religious life. World Day of Prayer for Vocations
Today the Church throughout the world prays for vocations. Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for vocations to the priesthood and religious life? Pray for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life. Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister. Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God’s call.
Teach Your Children to Use GPS (God’s Positioning System)
After Mass today, have a conversation with your children, asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” After a few moments of discussion, ask, “Who do you think God wants you to be when you grow up?” Emphasize to your children that God has a specific plan in mind for them, and that following God’s plan is the surest way to happiness. Every life decision — which college to attend, whom to date, which job to pursue, whether to enter seminary, whom to marry — should be undertaken only after praying for God’s guidance. In other words, encourage kids to navigate life using GPS — God’s Positioning System.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL FOR VOCATIONS:
- For parish priests, that they will minister with the heart of the Good Shepherd, and that their example inspires more young men to enter seminary. We pray to the Lord.
- For the mothers & fathers of priests, that God richly blesses them for the great gift they have given the Church. We pray to the Lord.
- That the young people in our own parish will respond to the Lord’s invitation to become priests, or religious brothers and sisters. We pray to the Lord.
- For those who are having difficulty discerning their vocation, may the Holy Spirit give them wisdom and peace. We pray to the Lord.
- That parents will be open to priestly and religious vocations within their families, and that they will encourage their children to consider every vocation. We pray to the Lord.
- In thanksgiving for all clergy and religious who have served our community, and for the repose of the souls of those who have died. We pray to the Lord.

God our Father, from eternity You
appointed Your only begotten Son to be
the High Priest of the human race,
Pour forth, we beseech You,
Your Holy Spirit upon our families,
that vocations to the priesthood may be multiplied.
Lord Jesus, give us holy priests
To offer up the sacrifice of the Mass
To lead the little ones to You.
To strengthen the faith of believers.
To preach the Gospel to all people.
To bring forgiveness to sinners.
To feed souls the Bread of Life.
To comfort the suffering & dying,
and to spread Your Kingdom in our midst.
Mary, Mother of our High Priest,
pray for us and obtain for us
an increase of Holy priests. Amen.
Daily Prayer for Vocations
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the
Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly pray to You to bless our diocese and our
world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You and gladly and courageously
spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We pray tat their lives may be always centered on our
Eucharistic Lord; that they be always faithful to the
Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and
daughters of Mary, our Mother, in making You known
and loved; and that all may attain Heaven.
Bless our families and our children and choose from
our homes those whom You desire for this holy work.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

¡Como Católicos, creemos firmemente que Dios tiene un plan para nuestras vidas! A unos llama al matrimonio, a otros al sacerdocio ya otros a la vida religiosa oa vivir como solteros generosos. Vivir plenamente nuestra vocación —y enseñar a los jóvenes a discernir el llamado de Dios— es un deber serio, pero gozoso. Durante esta semana, anime a los jóvenes en su vida (hijos, nietos, estudiantes y amigos) a estar abiertos si Dios los llama al sacerdocio o la vida religiosa. Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones
Hoy la Iglesia en todo el mundo ora por las vocaciones. ¿Haréis un esfuerzo especial para pedir al Señor vocaciones al sacerdocio ya la vida religiosa? Oren por los sacerdotes que los han atendido a lo largo de su vida. Anime a sus hijos, nietos u otros jóvenes a considerar una vocación como sacerdote o hermano o hermana religioso. Recen un rosario por más hombres y mujeres jóvenes en nuestra diócesis para responder al llamado de Dios.
Enseñe a sus Hijos a Usar el GPS (Sistema de Posicionamiento de Dios)
Después de la Misa de hoy, tenga una conversación con sus hijos y pregunte: "¿Qué quieres ser cuando seas grande?" Después de unos momentos de discusión, pregunte: "¿Quién crees que Dios quiere que seas cuando seas grande?" Enfatice a sus hijos que Dios tiene un plan específico en mente para ellos, y que seguir el plan de Dios es el camino más seguro hacia la felicidad. Cada decisión de la vida (a qué universidad asistir, con quién salir, qué trabajo seguir, si ingresar al seminario, con quién casarse) debe tomarse solo después de orar por la guía de Dios. - Por las madres y padres de los sacerdotes, que Dios les bendiga ricamente por el gran don que han dado a la Iglesia. Roguemos al Señor.
- Que los jóvenes de nuestra propia parroquia respondan a la invitación del Señor de convertirse en sacerdotes, o hermanos y hermanas religiosos. Roguemos al Señor.
- Para aquellos que tienen dificultad para discernir su vocación, que el Espíritu Santo les dé sabiduría y paz. Roguemos al Señor.
- Que los padres estén abiertos a las vocaciones sacerdotales y religiosas dentro de sus familias, y que animen a sus hijos a considerar cada vocación. Roguemos al Señor.
- En acción de gracias por todos los clérigos y religiosos que han servido a nuestra comunidad, y por el descanso de las almas de los difuntos. Roguemos al Señor

Dios nuestro Padre, desde la eternidad Tú
nombraste a Tu Hijo unigénito para ser
el Sumo Sacerdote de la raza humana,
Derrama, te suplicamos,

que se multipliquen las vocaciones al sacerdocio.

Padre Celestial, Tu divino Hijo nos enseñó
a orar al Señor de la mies para enviar obreros a su viña.
Te rogamos fervientemente que bendigas nuestra diócesis
y nuestra mundo con muchos sacerdotes
y religiosos y religiosas que te amarán con alegría
y valentía pasar sus vidas al servicio de la Iglesia
de Tu Hijo bajo la guía del Espíritu Santo.
Oramos para que sus vidas estén siempre centradas en nuestra Señor Eucarístico;
que sean siempre fieles a la Padre Santo;
y para que sean devotos hijos y hijas de María, nuestra Madre,
al daros a conocer y amado;
y que todos alcancen el Cielo.
Bendice a nuestras familias y a nuestros hijos
y elige entre nuestras casas a los que deseas para esta santa obra.
