The Diocese of Grand Rapids’ Office of Communications has issued the following statement from Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak, bishop of Grand Rapids, in response to this weekend’s deadly shootings.
Once again tragedy grips our nation as members of two communities mourn the loss of innocent lives this past weekend. This on the heels of another mass shooting just a week before. As my brother bishops state, “We can never again believe that mass shootings are an isolated exception. They are an epidemic against life that we must, in justice, face. God’s mercy and wisdom compel us to move toward preventative action.”
We must come together as one nation under God to pray for the deceased, support their loved ones and first responders, and seek action that prioritizes the inherent dignity and respect of every person.
