For the week of their Spring Break a group of eleven students from Hope College’s Union of Catholic Students traveled to the inner city of Chicago for an immersion and service trip. They were accompanied and led by Tom Eggleston, our pastoral associate, and Marilyn Torborg. The students and Tom lived with a group of Franciscan sisters at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in West Humboldt Park. While there they helped the sisters in cleaning the church and worked on a project explaining the religious symbolism in the stained glass windows (which will later be found on their website). The group also tutored and played with children at an after-school program each day, distributed food at a pantry, deep cleaned the church and convent, and shared a lot of laughs. It was a wonderful week.
