One of the pillars of a domestic church, a church in the home, is prayer. Having a prayer space in your home is one great way to help prayer be an important part of your every day life. Each person in the household can contribute in choosing and putting together the space. Here's a brief guide.

Tener un espacio de oración en su hogar es una excelente manera de ayudar a que la oración sea una parte importante de su vida cotidiana. Cada persona en el hogar puede contribuir eligiendo y armando el espacio. Aquí hay una breve guía.
How to set up a prayer table in your home
What are the items you would need to set up a prayer table or space in your home? You may have some or most of the items around your house!
As a family, you could choose one item a day for your children to find and/or create, and have a beautiful, shared prayer space for your family over a week’s time. It is important that this is a family project so that your children can take ownership of their prayer lives.
Table
If you have a low table (think coffee table or maybe a crate turned upside down), this can allow the youngest child to prepare the prayer space, thus taking ownership of his or her environment. You may have a low table in your home, or you may not. Choose a corner of your regular eating table, use a side table that normally has piles of books, or turn a box upside down and use that. Be creative and use what you already have in your home.
Prayer Cloths
We suggest a prayer cloth or something in the color of the current liturgical season. Again, use what you have in your home and be creative – no need to leave your house and buy anything new. For Lent, the liturgical color is purple.
Bible
Rather than using a children’s “picture Bible” that may paraphrase Sacred Scripture, we suggest a Catholic edition of our entire Sacred Scriptures. Don’t have a Bible in your home? Bible Stand or Pillow
You may want a stand or small pillow to hold the Bible, which is a further expression of the preciousness of the Bible. Don’t have a small pillow? Have your child decorate a piece of paper that becomes the sacred place you set your family’s scriptures.
Statue or Sacred Art
One of the characteristics of the young child is that they are attracted to beauty. This includes the art that we place in our environment. Studies show that there are intellectual benefits of stimulating the brain through the fine arts. For younger children, it is recommended that the images be few and carefully selected to reflect the most essential biblical images for Jesus, the Blessed Mother, the Holy Family and the most important New Testament events. Encourage your children to find images or statues already in your home, or print (if you have a computer printer) beautiful images your children find on the internet.
Prayer cards
A lovely box or basket to hold one-word small prayer cards or psalm/prayer phrase cards such as such as:
Amen
Hosanna
Glory and Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Psalm 23:1
Psalm 23:1-3
Psalm 23:1-4
“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.” Luke 1:28
Blessed are you among women; blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Luke 1:42
Perhaps one of your children would like to spend quiet time and write one or more of these verses or phrases on a piece of paper to share with your family.
Candle
If you already have a candle, place one in your family’s prayer space. Again, do not go out to purchase one. . .God’s Word is a light for us, with or without a candle. If you are able, lighting a candle when praying and reading Scripture together helps us remember that Jesus is the light of the world, a light no darkness can ever extinguish.

Cómo Arreglar una mesa de oración en casa
¿Cuáles son los artículos que necesitaría para establecer una mesa o un espacio para oración en casa? ¡Es posible que ya tenga algunas o la mayoría de estas cosas en su casa!
Como familia, pueden elegir un artículo al día para que sus hijos lo encuentran o lo hagan para tener un hermoso espacio de oración para su familia y compartir durante la semana. Es importante que este sea un proyecto familiar para que sus hijos puedan formar sus propios vidas de oración.
La mesa
Si tiene una mesa baja (como una mesa de centro o tal vez una caja duro al revés), esto puede permitir que el niño más pequeño prepare el espacio de oración, y así asuma la responsabilidad de cuidar de su ambiente. Es posible que tenga una mesa baja en su casa y es posible que no la tenga. Elija una esquina de su mesa para comer, use una mesita del salón o ponga una caja al revés y úsela. Sea creativo y use lo que ya tiene en casa.
El Mantel de Oración
Recomendamos un mantel de oración a algo que sea el color del tiempo litúrgico. De nuevo, use lo que tiene en casa y sea creativo - no es necesario salir de su casa para comprar algo nuevo. Para la Cuaresma, el color es morado.
La Biblia
En lugar de utilizar una “Biblia ilustrada” para niños que pueda acortar las Sagradas Escrituras, recomendamos una edición católica todas nuestras Sagradas Escrituras. ¿No tiene una Biblia en casa? Algo para recargar la biblia

Quizás a uno de sus hijos de sus hijos le gustaría pasar un rato tranquilo y escribir uno o más de estos versos o frases en una hoja de papel para compartir con su familia.
La Vela
Si ya tiene una vela, póngala en su espacio de oración. De nuevo, no salga de la casa para comprar una… La Palabra de Dios es una luz para nosotros con o sin una vela. Si es posible encienda la vela cuando reza y cuanda lee las Escrituras. Esta nos ayuda recordar que Jesús es la luz del mundo, una luz que ninguna oscuridad puede extinguir.
