"You shall love the Lord your God… and your neighbor as yourself." Luke 10:27
This is the theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2024.
The theme, taken from the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke, reflects the connection between love of God and love of neighbor with a particular concern for challenging the boundaries of who is considered "neighbor". In this pericope, Jesus is questioned as to the path to eternal life. His answer is not to only observe the commandments, but to also imitate the love of God in the giving of self for another. It is a call for charity, mercy, justice, and unity.
Prayer for Christian Unity
We pray, O gracious Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, that we all may be one as you are one. In your community of complete unity, we have our beginning and our end. To you we pray, asking for the gift of visible unity among all who believe in your Christ.
As we commemorate this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, we are reminded by your Word that all human beings are our neighbors and that we are to love them like ourselves and in the same way we love you. Help us to overcome the barriers and divisions we have nurtured against your will.
Grant to us, O Lord, a new Spirit of love and solidarity, that we may proclaim your good news to all of creation. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirt are one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"Amarás al Señor tu Dios... y a tu prójimo como a ti mismo". Lucas 10:27
Este es el tema de la Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos en 2024.
El tema, tomado del primer capítulo del Evangelio de Lucas, refleja la conexión entre el amor a Dios y el amor al prójimo, con una preocupación particular por desafiar los límites de quién es considerado "prójimo". En esta perícopa, Jesús es interrogado sobre el camino a la vida eterna. Su respuesta no es solo observar los mandamientos, sino también imitar el amor de Dios en la entrega de sí mismo por el prójimo. Es un llamado a la caridad, a la misericordia, a la justicia y a la unidad.
Oración por la unidad de los cristianos
Te pedimos, oh misericordiosa Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, que todos seamos uno como tú eres uno. En tu comunidad de unidad completa, tenemos nuestro principio y nuestro fin. A ti te rogamos, pidiendo el don de la unidad visible entre todos los que creen en tu Cristo.
Al conmemorar esta Semana de Oración por la Unidad de los Cristianos, nuestra Palabra nos recuerda que todos los seres humanos son nuestros prójimos y que debemos amarlos como a nosotros mismos y de la misma manera que te amamos a ti. Ayúdanos a superar las barreras y divisiones que hemos alimentado en contra de tu voluntad.
Concédenos, Señor, un nuevo Espíritu de amor y solidaridad, para que podamos anunciar tu buena noticia a toda la creación. Te lo pedimos por tu Hijo, Jesucristo, que contigo y el Espíritu Santo son un solo Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
