Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) 

On this solemnity, the Church celebrates the Real Presence of Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist. On that weekend (June 18/19), St. Francis de Sales will return to offering Holy Communion by the cup. This fuller sign of Christ’s presence (receiving under both kinds) was suspended two years ago because of the pandemic.   There certainly are those who will have concerns about health and safety receiving from the cup. Those concerns are certainly valid and something to seriously consider as an individual, but please remember it has always been optional as we believe that a Catholic receives the whole body and blood of Christ under either form.   It will be made available for those who wish to receive Christ in this way, but those who do not can simply pass it by.  Offering Holy Communion by the cup will also allow those in our community with severe gluten intolerance (unable to tolerate low-gluten hosts) to receive Christ in Holy Communion once again for the first time in two years.

En esta solemnidad, la Iglesia celebra la Presencia Real del Cuerpo, la Sangre, el Alma y la Divinidad de Cristo en la Eucaristía. Ese fin de semana (18/19 de junio), San Francis de Sales volverá a ofrecer la Sagrada Comunión por copa. Esta señal más plena de la presencia de Cristo (recibiendo bajo ambas formas); se suspendió hace dos años debido a la pandemia. Ciertamente, habrá quienes se preocupen por la salud y la seguridad al recibir de la copa. Esas preocupaciones son ciertamente válidas y algo para considerar seriamente como individuo, pero recuerde que siempre ha sido opcional, ya que creemos que un Católico recibe todo el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo en cualquiera de las dos formas. Estará disponible para aquellos que deseen recibir a Cristo de esta manera, pero aquellos que no lo deseen simplemente pueden pasar de largo. Ofrecer la Sagrada Comunión por copa también permitirá que aquellos en nuestra comunidad con intolerancia severa al gluten (incapaces de tolerar hostias bajas en gluten) reciban a Cristo en la Sagrada Comunión una vez más por primera vez en dos años.
