Please join us at 10am on Saturday, June 8th for a special Healing Mass in honor of the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This special Mass will include the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Any baptized Catholic experiencing serious illness or the frailty of old age is invited to participate in this sacrament.
In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising.
The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient.
When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age.

Únase a nosotros a las 10 a.m. el sábado 8 de junio para una Misa de Sanación especial en honor al Memorial del Inmaculado Corazón de la Santísima Virgen María. Esta Misa especial incluirá el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos. Cualquier católico bautizado que experimente una enfermedad grave o la fragilidad de la vejez está invitado a participar en este sacramento.
En el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos de la Iglesia, a través del ministerio del sacerdote, es Jesús quien toca a los enfermos para curarlos del pecado, y a veces incluso de dolencias físicas. Sus curaciones eran signos de la llegada del Reino de Dios. El mensaje central de su sanidad nos habla de su plan para vencer el pecado y la muerte por medio de su muerte y resurrección.
El Rito de la Unción nos dice que no hay necesidad de esperar hasta que una persona esté a punto de morir para recibir el Sacramento. Un juicio cuidadoso sobre la gravedad de la enfermedad es suficiente.
Cuando se administra el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos, el efecto esperado es que, si es la voluntad de Dios, la persona sea sanada físicamente de la enfermedad. Pero incluso si no hay curación física, el efecto primario del Sacramento es una curación espiritual por la cual la persona enferma recibe el don del Espíritu Santo de la paz y la valentía para hacer frente a las dificultades que acompañan a la enfermedad grave o a la fragilidad de la vejez.
