As we begin this Lenten season, our Holy Father has asked all people, Catholic and non-Catholic, around the world to participate in a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace.
It will take place Friday, February 23. He is asking for prayer on this day to focus on "the tragic prolonging of conflicts in various parts of the world," particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
The USCCB (United States Catholic Conference of Bishops) is offering some suggestions for ways we can participate in this request:
- Learn about the situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan. Read this statement from the USCCB President.
- Pray for peace using this Prayer for the Day of Prayer and Fasting or one of these prayers for peace.
- Share what you've learned with others. Spread the word on social media.
- Give to Catholic Relief Services to support their peacebuilding work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and other countries.
