After all the Masses on May 19-20 all of us again have the opportunity to sign letters to our Congressional Representatives and Senators asking them to be conscious of those in our country and throughout the world who are hungry. Budgets reflect our values whether these are family or national budgets. Jesus has asked us to feed the hungry. As a nation we do this through programs such as SNAP (food stamps) and school lunches; internationally we do this through poverty-focused aid programs.

Currently these programs are being threatened with deep cuts. In the past 25 years global hunger has been cut in half because of a concentrated effort to end hunger. We know these programs here and abroad make a difference; we need to continue these efforts. Therefore, each of us is invited to take a minute after Mass this weekend to sign three letters – to be part of making a difference in the lives of so many sisters and brothers.
